QuakeCon 2024 is kicking off today, and ahead of the event's official start, exciting news has surfaced about DOOM and DOOM II. A recent Steam listing reveals that the classic first-person shooters are getting a major overhaul with a new compilation package, set to deliver enhanced versions of these iconic games.

What's New in DOOM + DOOM II

The newly announced DOOM + DOOM II compilation promises to revitalize the classic titles with several impressive upgrades. Running on the advanced KEX Engine—already used in recent re-releases like DOOM 64 (2020) and Quake (2021)—this package will feature:

-Online Cross-Platform Deathmatch and Co-Op: Engage in fast-paced deathmatches or team up with up to 16 players across different platforms.

-Upgraded Visuals: Enjoy improved graphics and a newly-updated soundtrack, bringing the games' classic visuals into the modern era.

-Enhanced Controls: Modern controller support and a weapon carousel for quicker weapon switching enhance gameplay fluidity.

-New Content: A fresh episode titled *Legacy of Rust* for DOOM II, co-developed by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames, will be included. Plus, a new Deathmatch map pack featuring 25 exciting new maps.

Additional Details

The compilation is currently available for Xbox Series X|S at $9.99, although it has been removed from the Steam store for now. It's rumored that existing console owners of DOOM or DOOM II might receive this enhanced version for free.
