World of Warcraft recently dropped an intriguing hint about new class options for Dracthyr in its latest WoWCast episode focused on The War Within expansion. While it’s already been confirmed that Dracthyr will gain access to additional classes sometime after The War Within, this latest teaser suggests that these options could be arriving sooner than expected.
Introduced in the Dragonflight expansion, the Dracthyr are a race of dragon-like warriors originally limited to the Evoker class, which harnesses the power of the five dragonflights in combat. After nearly two years of speculation, Blizzard recently confirmed that Dracthyr would eventually have more class options, set to be available after the release of The War Within.
Now, World of Warcraft has provided the first official glimpse of these new Dracthyr class options. In a recent WoWCast episode, which primarily covered dungeons, delves, PvP, and raids in The War Within, observant players noticed something surprising. During a segment showing the Warbands character selection screen, a Dracthyr character was seen wielding two-handed axes—a capability exclusive to Fury Warriors. This marks the first time a non-Evoker Dracthyr has been officially showcased, with the character appearing around the 1:38 mark in the video, seated by a campfire.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time a Dracthyr has been seen equipped with items they typically cannot use. When the Warbands feature was first unveiled at BlizzCon 2023, one of the characters in a Warbands mockup image was a Dracthyr clad in leather armor, even though Evokers are restricted to mail armor. Although this was initially dismissed as a mistake, Blizzard’s subsequent decision to expand class options for Dracthyr suggests that the recent teaser in the WoWCast episode could be a deliberate nod to that earlier occurrence.
Currently, the exact release date for the Dracthyr class expansion remains unknown. However, the appearance of a Dracthyr Warrior in the video indicates that this feature may be further along in development than previously thought. With any luck, these new class options could be introduced in The War Within Patch 11.0.5, expected to drop in October or November. Alternatively, they might arrive later in Patch 11.1 or beyond.
Regardless of the timing, fans can look forward to Dracthyr gaining access to almost any class in the game. While classes like Death Knight, Druid, Paladin, and Shaman remain uncertain, and Demon Hunter is off the table, Dragonflight has made most other World of Warcraft classes universally available. It’s likely that Dracthyr will soon be able to choose from these as well. Players are eagerly awaiting an official announcement to clarify exactly which classes Dracthyr will be able to select.
